The fourth book in the Quest for Discipleship Series is called

                                 "The Promised Gift"

One of my favorite recent T.V. programs is the series 24. It is absolutely edge of your seat spell-binding, and leaves you every week wanting not to wait until the next Monday night!  Every Monday night the show starts with “previously on 24…” and gives you a trailer of the previous week. Well, in the Bible, you could say that the Book of Acts becomes the sequel to the Gospel story of Jesus. It kind of opens with…“Previously, in the story of Jesus …” up until verse twelve which is where the sequel starts.
There is no doubt that something powerful took place in the lives of the disciples over 2000 years ago that transformed people and multiplied what we call the “church.” A combustible faith was ignited and the flames of Pentecost swept like a prairie fire throughout the then known world!  Let me ask you something “Has the flame gone out?” “Has the story gotten old?”  Is there no one to tell it to?”
I wonder how long ago it was when we stopped making disciples.  How long ago, and for what reason did those who were once disciples, cease being disciples? And, when did we become content just being believers waiting for Jesus to come back?
Maybe, in preparation for this sequel – “The Promised Gift” – we should all spend some time reading or re-reading Acts chapter’s one through five…but, then, don’t just read it, meditate on it, and then ask yourself which of these three things – if not all – has kept you from being a disciple?
Are you absolutely convinced?
